Reflecting on Reflections
One interesting discovery on my visual experience of reflections is that most of the time when I observe a reflection from an object or thing, it is usually a secondary observation with a delayed recognition. I think each time it is the discovery of unexpected beauty that comes as a “surprise” of sorts that gives reflections a higher aesthetic value.
Who doesn’t love a beautiful reflection? Sometimes reflections aren’t obvious and you have to consciously look for them, and then when you find them you are transfixed by it. Once I discover a hidden reflection I find myself wanting to linger there… in the reflection and my eyes do not want to let go. A hypnosis of the eyes, if you will.
Sometimes we have to train our eyes intentionally to see things that are less obvious and commonly overlooked. Some reflections are loud and clear while some are subtle and almost invisible. It is the variety in reflections and the versatility in where and how they are discovered that makes them exciting and lends itself to being a type of visual game of “seek and find.”
