Vernacular Art
Art that is easy to understand and relate to is what I refer to as Vernacular Art. It is art that uses a “common” visual language people who do not have prestigious art degrees or strong conceptual-thinking tendencies can enjoy, understand, and easily relate to—and does not require in-depth thinking or examination. Art is its own paradox and the ambiguity associated with what it is and isn’t makes it impossible to even place it within lingual boundaries. Is there such thing as good art and bad art? Is there such thing as good expressions and bad expressions? Or is one person’s expression higher in value than another’s?
